Lomo de los Gatos (The Cats' Back) is an aboriginal archaeological complex formed by the village of stone houses of La Cañada de Los Gatos and two cemeteries which have graves, crypts, tombs and funerary caves (Las Crucecitas and La Puntilla).
The coastal town of La Cañada de Los Gatos (The Glen of the Cats) was established some 1,600 years ago. It has 19 stone structures, amongst which are a dozen indigenous houses. They have a typical shape consisting of a circular outdoor floor which has been partially excavated into the ground and an interior with one or two rooms next to each other. These lie next to others of a slightly rougher construction but also with circular floors and which are thought to have been built after the conquest of the island at the end of 15th century. Other dwellings and annex buildings related to agricultural activity were also built in this space at the end of the 19th century and throughout the 20th century.
In the cemetery of Las Crucecitas there are different types of aboriginal burial sites (in graves, crypts, and caves), as well as several burial monuments in the shape of tombs.
This Archaeological Zone was officially declared as being of Cultural Interest within this category in 1993.
